UGANDA: GULU CITY MAYOR FACE BAN OVER HARRESMENT FROM OYENGYENG PUBLICATION
The Editor of Oyengyeng News is facing harassment over hearsay that he caused slang language in the office of the Gulu City Mayor from an individual journalist close to the Gulu City Mayor, as the source alleged that he was informed that Okumu Livingstone Langol was caught on camera abusing the front Desk Secretary.
As a senior veteran journalist, what happened on Monday, July 27, 2026? I went to follow up on the appointment with Gulu City Mayor Julius Achire Labeja at around 9:00 Am, reaching Mayor office, I reported to the Mayor’s Secretary’s office; she asked what do want. I told her I came to see the mayor following the early appointment we scheduled. I told her I am following the suspension of some Donort funding to Uganda that affected Uganda Juidicary, Minister of Education and Ministry of Health.
The booked me and she went to the mayor office, but later she told me that the mayor is not going to see me, however, she advices to see the Deputy Mayor, I told her that the matter I am following need technical officials. now I cannot see the Deputy Mayor.
before moving out the secretary started to interview me in a humiliation manner, asking me to explain in detail why I the courage to follow up such matter, what is the significant outcome to.
I told her as Oyengyeng news, she has no role to interview me since I am not going to meet the boss,
“I am not here to be interview by Dick, and Tom. I walked out.”
Now the party involved telling me that sometime ago I posted on social media, that Gulu City mayor is now giving Gulu City wetland to investors, when it was alleged the Caterpillar bulldozer was opening the channel.”
