GULU CITY-TUESDAY JUNE 17, 2026.
By Okumu Livingstone Langol, (Uganda Correspondent.)
Jane Otto, the widow of the late Aldo Otto Okot, decried and said they are living in abject poverty after the death of their loved husband, Aldo Otto Okot, who passed on in 20219 to date, they family have not received any penny from the government.
Added after the death of our husband, his children dropped out of school; we were re-allocated to Got Olal village, Awere Sub-County, Pader District due to lack of money. The painful issue is that Aldo Otto Okot was a very generous person who served the government diligently, and we are being paid in our own coin.
“We have moved several times to seek the pension and Gratuity since 1019, when our husband passed on. Whenever we reach the Gulu District Senior Principal Finance Officer, when she sees us, her response is, “Why do you come to my office?” Go and wait for my response; I will call you. Mrs. Jane Otto bitterly lamented.
We have no options; if our message would reach Gen. Charles Otema Awany and NRM SG, Richard Todwong, we hope our issues with the pension would be solved. For years, we have not received any single pension money.
Irene Akidia, Gulu District Senior Principal Officer, when contacted by our Uganda Correspondent for comment on Tuesday, June 17, she acknowledged that indeed the wives of Aldo Okot have been frequently following the pension and gratuity of their husband, only that the government based their pension payment on the financial budget.

and (b) in any other case, the Government shall pay to his or her personal representatives for the benefit of his or her estate, a death gratuity calculated in accordance with clause 33 of the Agreement as if this Agreement had ended on the day following the date of his or her death.
