The timeline: Uganda Government shut down the Nation Media Group since 1007
What Uganda needs to know: two wrongs cannot make a right. “pe wa piyo Dano ikim Gen. Muhoozi, ki tit lok adaa ki en wek onge” literally means “do not incite violence and public opinion against Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, what wrongs he has done, because he is not in the know.” When you have become a leader although not the will of God, God will bless you upon the good deed, and will adore you
{Darkness at noon, UPDF Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba ordered shutting down of NTV-Uganda, the Daily Monitor, and Spark TV, Dembe FM, and the East African Publications. The Executive Director of Uganda Communication Commission is still pugnacious to get to the root causes of who shut them down.}

Added, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is now a leader; Ugandans are his subjects, he must treat everybody equally. Muhoozi let him know that Ugandans love him when he loves us.

Therefore, why can religious leaders confront our leaders?
“God allowed you to become King, even if he did not approve, but he embraced you upon your good work toward. God will allow your leadership because your hand employs God will.” Orach Bolo Elder stressed.
God chose Israel to show his people they are his people. “The Mene mene takel is clear”. The church leaders have to guide leaders, but they are not doing it the way prophets were to the king. Those people were going to direct the king because they were sent by God.
Ugandans, tell the truth to your leaders that God also supports the content.
`Based on reporting from multiple news outlets, the BBC news, the Al Jazeera news and a statement from the Executive Director of Uganda Communication Commission, Nyombi Thembo, confirmed the Nation Media Group and other media outlets had been closed down before issuing a statement.
“The immediate reason publicly is that the Muhoozi Kainerugaba UPDF Chief Defence Force announced that he had ordered the closing of Nation Media Group’s Uganda outlets, including NTV Uganda and Daily Monitor. He wrote on his X that he does not believe in a free press. He says the outlets would not reopen without his permission. He did not provide a detailed legal justification for the shutdown.” The statement from Gen. Muhoozi on X read.
later follow the, security personnel were then deployed to Nation Media Group’s premises in Kampala, where staff reported being prevented from entering or leaving, and NTV Uganda’s television broadcasts, along with some affiliated radio stations, went off the air; the situation still remains fragile

And the Nation Media Group over its news coverage. The Uganda CDF argued on X that press freedom is his concern. However, press freedom organizations and Media associations described the action as a crackdown on independent media and expressed concern that is violated constitutional protections for freedom of expression.
The most outrageous unfolding events, as of the latest development reporting, neither the Uganda People’s Defence Forces nor Uganda government so far had issued a detailed official explanation citing a specific law or court order authorizing the closure.
Analysts across the globe commented that the incident has drawn widespread international attention because the Nation Media Group is one of East Africa’s largest independent media companies, and the shutdown has renewed debate over media freedom in Uganda; this followed three months ago when the former News Vision reporter Joe Nam was gunned down in Kampala, and his case was swept under the carpet.

The timeline: Uganda Government shut down the Nation Media Group since 2007
The Government of Uganda closed down the Nation Media Group in 2002; this followed a report the Nation Media Group carried out that a UPDF Helicopter gunship was shot down by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Frank Nyakairu, the then Daily Monitor Reporter based in Gulu, northern Uganda reported that LRA has shorted gunship, this led to crackdown on the Daily Monitor and Kampala FM, for a week the Daily Monitor went off air.
“The first shutdown came on October 11, 2002, when heavily armed security personnel raided the Monitor’s headquarters in Namuwongo, Kampala. The officers shut down the newspaper, confiscated computers and documents, and arrested journalist Frank Nyakairu in Gulu. Operations remained suspended for more than a week. The raid followed the publication of a story reporting that a UPDF helicopter had been shot down during military operations against the Lord’s Resistance Army in northern Uganda.
The government disputed the report, insisting the helicopter had crashed due to mechanical failure. Only days earlier, President Yoweri Museveni had publicly described the Monitor as “an enemy newspaper” during his Independence Day address, accusing it of undermining national security and aiding rebel propaganda. The newspaper had already faced earlier restrictions, including being barred from covering some government events.
In August 2005, the government of Uganda ordered the closure of KM radio, after the station aired an episode of Andrew Mwenda live program in which hosted Andrew Mwenda discussing the Helicopter crash that killed South Sudanese leader Dr. John Garang, the programme, Mwenda alleged that the government had provided Dr. Garang with a defective and poorly maintained Helicopter, describing it on air as “Junk”. The following day, security agencies arrested Andrew Mwenda. He spent three days in detention before being released on bail.
The authorities also threatened to shut down the Daily Monitor, KFM’s sister publication under the Nation Media Group. However, following negotiations between the media house and the government. KFM was eventually allowed to resume broadcasting; another confrontation came in 2007, when NTV Uganda was almost prevented from going on air. NTV Uganda had launched in December 2006, but in January 2007, the government switched off the station’s transmitters and removed some of its broadcasting equipment, citing licensing and technical compliance issues
The other Nation Media Group shutdown was on Monday, May 20, 2013. At around 11:00 a.m., three police patrol vehicles arrived at the Monitor premises in Namuwongo. Officers ordered civilians and boda boda riders away from the area before declaring the entire compound a crime scene. Police sealed off the premises and searched the newsroom after the newspaper published a letter attributed to Gen. David Sejusa (Tinyefuza), alleging an assassination plot against senior officials opposed to the so-called “Muhoozi Project,” an alleged succession plan involving Gen (then Brigadier) Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The latest un folding of event media shut down happened on Sunday, June 28, 2026. When Uganda CDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, shut down the Nation Media Group indefinitely. The reason still remains.
The Uganda government has arrested dozens of Ugandan opposition members, including Erias Lukwago, who is the interim president of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a prominent opposition political party in Uganda. He is also a senior advocate and previously served as the Lord Mayor of the capital city, Kampala.
“Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was most recently arrested on June 15, 2026. Armed security personnel, including SFC and UPDF operatives, raided his home in Wakaliga, Kampala.
Following his arrest, he was detained incommunicado before being charged at the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court with imprisonment of treason, in connection with the treason case against opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye.”
When Amb. Dr Olara Otunnu came back in 2009, his strong advocacy was that Ugandans were living in safe houses; he challenged the Kampala regime that he would drag them to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and it came to pass.
