Q & A with Lamwo Women MP

Oyeng Yeng caught up with Sarah Lanyero, the Women MP for Lamwo district about her take on the COVID-19 situation. Below is her response

Sarah Lanyero: I have been pitching camp in Lamwo district to monitor and participate in the District Task Force meeting every Tuesday. I also do go and meet Sub Counties COVID-19 task and I am working hand in hand with Villages task force as well.

The community along the border between Uganda and South Sudan they are very vigilant, they will not allow anybody from South Sudan to cross to Uganda because what we know is COVID-19 is spreading at alarming rate.

Other Ugandans who have been caught up in South Sudan are living near the border point, I was told that there are three people, one from Agago district, one from Kitgum and One from Lamwo district.

But, we have told them that they cannot enter into Uganda through Lamwo district since South Sudan is now an epic center of COVID-19, we told them that they get the food items that has been so far given to Lamwo district, since we have received food items.

Question? The Chairman of Lamwo John Ogwok says there are some cattle rustlers along the border, is it true, who are those cattle rustlers?

Answer: Yes when the President declared lock down some people from the neighboring country came and raided cattle from the Agoro Sub County and Madi-opeyi Sub County. The rustlers took away the animals and beat one person leaving him unconscious, thinking that the man was dead but luckily he survived.

Last week I raised the issues before the floor of Parliament, and the UPDF responded by sending the 3rd Division UPDF Division Commander Bridger Kabounga who paid impromptu visits to the border areas and talked to the affected community who live along the frontiers. So far, Local Defense Forces- LDU, and UPDF soldiers have been deployed along the border.
