A big trend across the regions is that they are sending their students to Gulu University because the University leads in the faculties of Medicine, Biosystem Engineering, and Law. The new intake of 7,000 students has a huge burden on accommodation, due to poor housing development, as the UPDF has put a ban on constructing more than five-story buildings in Gulu City.

Big shots in Kampala have to send their students to study at Gulu University, including ministers, Members of Parliament across the region and senior government civil servants, purely because the higher institution of learning has been performing academically well, the senior University confirmed.
James Onono Ojok, the Public Relation Officer for Gulu University, explained that the University is overwhelmed with the new intake that has attracted children of prominent people in the regions; in the past, Gulu University had a litmus test as the northern Uganda post-war trauma was imminent. The majority of Uganda, especially from the South, West and Eastern Uganda, avoiding the Lord’s Resistance Army aftermath, is no longer there.
“Gulu University is improving in the academic world, ranking number one in the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine and Biosystem Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture, following our motto “For Community Transformation.” Our focus: The motto guides the institution’s teaching, research, and outreach programs aimed at rebuilding and developing communities, particularly in northern Uganda, which is motivating.
We want the 2025 peace award, which Gulu University was awarded, and Gulu University has received the Most Impactful University in Rural Transformation and Community Development award in Kigali, Rwanda, at the event: 3rd Edition of the African Academia Conference awards.” The Public Relations Officer’s remark.
Stressing that Gulu University alumni are organised, the visibility resound that is, giving Gulu University a positive note; the visibility of alumni has a good impact, and it resonates with its mark.
“We have beaten Makerere University and Mukono Christian University in Law; our alumni Law students are performing highly. We perform well; Medicine is one of the faculty of the faculty in positives.
Our Correspondent challenges James Onono Ojok that although he is putting the public image that Gulu University is one of the best universities in the Country, however, most of the Professors who are experts in Wildlife Authority, Medicine, and Humanities faculties, when the journalists contact them to give their expert opinions, they turn down such calls; why?

James Onono Ojok stressed that it is very unfortunate that such a notion has been registered as disappointment, but the question remains: we have Associate Prof. Geoffrey Moses Owot, from the Faculty of Economics, has been responding positively, and Prof. Collins Okello, the Dean of Agriculture and Environmental they would give experts’ opinions regarding the areas of their work.
Gang robbed Gulu University, third-year student.
Another Gulu University third-year student was robbed in the wee hours of Sunday, 23 August, while travelling back to her residence hostel at Gulu University, police have confirmed.
A third years system Engineering student who travelled from Kampala with MEGA Bus Company reached Lamogi Ber Bus terminal at around 4:00 AM, and she used the common border to transport her to the residence, but on the way, the bus she was travelling with decided to use Moroto road instead of riding via Gulu City Centre to Gulu University, where she was diverted to the gang hubs. Police contact reasoned.
The motorcycle, when it diverted the third-year student, on reaching and branching off the road, the group of gangs descended on her and struggled with her neck, but before she lost consciousness, she told the perpetrators, begging for mercy, telling them to spare her life because in the bag she had UGX 2 million. The gangs left and walked away, leaving her unconscious.
The Public Relation Officer, James Onono Ojok, narrates that when the victim, a third year Biosystem Engineer, woke up, she gained the strength and moved to the roadside where the good Samaritan transported her to her Hostel residence.
“When the matter was reported to the police, the lady advised the Gulu Central Police Station officer that they used a tracking device because her computer has a tracking device; her tips helped the police, because on the following day, when the computer was opened, she informed the police.”
The police recovered 50 phones from the robbery from Lacan Kwite village, Gulu City outskirts, Layibi Division; the suspects are helping police for more investigation.
