Ambassador David Mwaka, Former Uganda Minister and Envoy to DR Congo, Dies
——‘
Ambassador David Mwaka, a seasoned diplomat and former minister who represented Uganda with distinction at home and abroad, has passed on this evening in Kampala.
Mwaka served the country in several senior capacities, most notably as Uganda’s Ambassador to the then Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo).
Following his years of service in government and diplomacy, Ambassador Mwaka returned to his home district of Gulu, where he embraced farming as his new vocation. On his farm in Bwobomanam village, he cultivated citrus fruits, mangoes, avocados, and maintained livestock and beekeeping projects. His farm grew into a model enterprise and a training ground for many farmers across Northern Uganda, showcasing his commitment to rebuilding livelihoods in a region scarred by conflict.
Colleagues and community members remember him as a man of integrity, humility, and resilience—one who left the comfort of city life to invest in the soil and people of his birthplace. His life’s journey, from the corridors of diplomacy to the fields of Gulu, reflects a deep love for service and country.
Ambassador David Mwaka’s passing is a great loss not only to his family and the Acholi community but also to Uganda at large. He leaves behind a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and dedication to both public service and rural transformation.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
