At 5:00PM, Monday, March 30, 2026. Hope Odeke was busy counting her success at the close of the business of the 5th Northern Uganda Agricultural Trade Show at Kaunda Ground, little did she know that she will be facing a one-on-one interview with Our Correspondent. She was ambushed with a question: What do you do to the farmers in Northern Uganda?

Hope Odeke, a middle-aged lady in her late 20’s, sort of back, I am the Coordinator for Agro Bloom Plutus. “For us, Agro Plutus is Agro Business Consultancy to the farmers,

So, what we do to sell and to test things, Plutus does for the farmers, soil testing, biochar solutions, agro-forestry developments, irrigation, training and capacity building EVDR compliance (Farmers first). Agri Bloom, a smart solution for soil health, Agri inputs, fertilizers and agronomic supplier.

What is your success story in Northern Uganda’s input in Agri Bloom smart farming?

Through Agri Bloom smart farming impact story, we have 30,000 farmers in northern Uganda, Mid western, southwestern, West Nile and Eastern Uganda.

And also, has clients, cooperative groups, farmers groups, exporters, and traders. Every year, along the Coffee valve chain, 10,000 tonnes of Coffee has been exported, exceeding 5 years.

Has the Agri Bloom Plutus smart farming registered challenges so far?

Our biggest challenging is funding, because currently this is the period for the Agri Bloom Plutus farming, and we have to increase numbers of farmers across the regions, but the fund has been budgeted for only 30,000 across the regions.

Secondly, Agri Bloom Plutus, faced global change, because at times due to heavy deforestation that has created rain pattern changes, some years we witnessed long spelt drought that affected the farmers in the regions. and at times much down powered resulted in flooding, a case in point in Elgon, Eastern Uganda, where we have registered flooding that resulted in a landslide, while in the Rwenzori region, we have witnessed a landslide.

“Great trade show, hope for better next year and more participation” Hope Odeke revealed.

What does GIZ do to support Coffee, Poultry and Bees Keeping in Nwoya, Lalar Society limited?

Atim Christine, 35 years she was running her GIZ stool, her narrative gives hope that at list Rocco Paco Initiative through GIZ has been welcome in the Acholi Sub Region despite the loud cry from Emeritus Chief Justice Owiny Dollo Chigamoi.

“I have been in the production of coffee farming; we have 300 beehives in Lalar, Nwoya District, in Lalar village, Langol Odur Kulu village, and we have 60 beehive keepers.” Atim narrates.

She acknowledged that GIZ Enterprise is training us in coffee farming, also training us in Poultry management, and Bee’s hive keeping.

We have 3,000 Broilers ready for market, we have harvested Honey, we have sold honey and Bollore to the European Union, our interest we want to be the biggest winning Bee’s keeping, Poultry farmer in Uganda.

His concern is in Coffee farming, says Coffee is the major production, followed by Poultry and Bee’s keeping, although they are engaged lastly in Coca planting. We also intercropp with Banana’s plantation, stressed that we have planted 350 Coffee, we have just harvested it.

Alfred Ojok, still looking for the market to sell the Coffee production, however, Ojok confirmed that they have sold poultry, we have layers and Broiler, the remaining we are targeting Easter festivity.

The Executive Board of Directors, Mr Ojok, is planning to acquire local chicken soon this year, 2026.

“We are agreed that each member should have 30 local chickens in our work plan; we planned for 400,000.” Alfred Ojok narrated.

Apire Anthony is one of the coffee farmers in Nwoya district. He has planted 350 coffee plants, and is one of the people who sells his coffee. He says Coffee market for seedlings is very lucrative in South Sudan; they are demanding 50,000 Coffee seedlings, the problem is where to get the Coffee seedlings. And fluctuation of Coffee price, at first three years ago, when farmers in Nwoya District were planning Coffee, the price of Coffee by then was 8,000 Shillings, but this year, 2026, when they sold their Coffee, the market price dropped to 6,000 Shillings only.

The challenges Coffee farmers are facing interlia is value edition, storage, we don’t have storage members hire story from individuals, Coffee farmers have constraints of storage.

We also have little resources from most of the farmers; this is due to fluctuation in Coffee sales. This has affected us, the parents who have their children in Schools, the school authorities expect Coffee boom, and yet we have sold our Coffee at lass price

“When our pupils were sent home due to tuition fees, some of us resorted to selling their Coffee at a giveaway price, even Honey, we sold it at a lower cost.” Alfred Ojok stressed.

GIZ did not give us tractors, but they gave us one Laptop, furniture, Smartphone 2 Infanrix hot 6o1. Besides that, GIZ is empowering our Cooperative Society in capacity building in governance and mitigating purposes in Coffee farming.

Added the Bulanyi Company who have software, when they recruit the new farmers, they support them with seeds, and train them on how the Coffee Hall is dug, the diameter and how deep the hall should be dug. Other crop items like Maize, Beans, Tomatoes and Onion have been given to the farmers who volunteer, their agricultural input like Jerrican have been supplied to Nwoya Coffee, Poultry, and Bee’s keeping Society.

“We are getting Agricultural machinery from Agro Machinery Project, whose backing is coming from Micro Finance Company. They gave one tractor, they are giving us that we should pay at 40 per cent, the Cooperative Society will pay the lone” Alfred Ojok revealed.

Other assistance the Cooperative is getting is Project Coffee and Coca Value change Project, it is five years project, we give grants to committed farmers in the all countries.

“For the establishment of Cocoa and Coffee farmers from 10 acres to 50 acres every year. We give 3-5 ASA per acre; we give them planting materials like Coffee and Cocoa seedling, a big implementation by NAAIF.
