Report gather by Our Correspondent aftermath of NUP party President Robert Kyagulanyi rally in Gulu City on the 6th December, the finding one school boy called Otim Leoneon Anywar 16 years old was beaten by combined UPDF and Uganda Police Forces at Awere Ground, and died later in the night.
According to an eyewitness account from the scene, Otim was struck by a rungo stick on the head many times, as a result he was taken away by the same forces and died late in the night.
Christ Ouma, Uncle to deceased Otim Anywar, when contacted by Our Correspondent about the death of his relative, he confirmed that they have lost a boy called Otim Leoneon Anywar, a boy of 16 years old.
“I have confirmed that we have lost a boy called Otim Leoneon, a senior two student, I will send you more details later.” Christ Ouma argued.
Aftermath information collected from the flight confirmed that the police officer was killed by mob justice from Cereleno Market too. The police officer who was reinforcing people not to go and attain the planned NUP political rally, was stumped on by mob justice, as he was pushing crowds not to go for Kyagulanyi rally.
Tension flared on Saturday as security forces deployed heavily across Gulu City streets, disrupting a scheduled National Unity Platform (NUP), party rally. A police teargas vehicle and an armored Uganda of Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF), tankers patrolled the City backed by large numbers of UPDF and Uganda Police foot soldiers, an eyewitness account.
Witnesses reported that the security personnel, alongside groups of youths locally known as Aguu, beat several NUP sumpters and onlookers, scattering crowds that had gathered ahead of the event,
According to a group of Northern Uganda Media Club members Okot, who was not allowed to mention his second name because of the sensitivity of the issues. Narrated that at about 5:00PM local African time. Heavily armed UPDF and Uganda Police Tankers rolled at the T-Junction road leading to Kitgum, and Gulu Airfield. Opposition Bank of Uganda, they instructed Robert Kyagulanyi, to make a U-turn and drive westward toward Juba road.
“However, Robert Kyagulanyi, NUP party President remained adamant in his vehicle, refused to succumb, instead, he stepped out of his motorcade and defiled UPDF and Uganda Police Forces ordered, started walking toward Gulu-Kampala highway. While he was still arguing with the distractors. The UPDF tanker lowered the barrel of the tank targeting him, but the NUP party President remained, jumped out and started his journey.” Forcing both Armed UDF and Uganda Police Forces to pursue him.
On Gulu City streets on Kampala highway, according NUP supporters’ interview by our Correspondent who they asked for anonymous, they recounted that the unrest intensified as convoy of NU president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, was blocked near the regional Bank of Uganda, Gulu main branch. According to observers, heavily armed security forces sealed off section of Gulu-Kampala highway, preventing Kyagulanyi’ vehicles from proceeding to Awere Grounds, where his rally had been scheduled
“faced with the roadblock, Kyagulanyi and his team abandoned their vehicles and continued on foot for nearly a kilometer to reach the venue. The disruption caused significant delays and confusion among NUP among supporters waiting at the ground.
Later on, after the rally, as NUP party President Robert Kyagulanyi left Awere ground, the same heavily armed UPDF and Uganda Police Forces perused him, reaching Layibi Trading Center, NUP supports at Layibi Center 2 kilometer on Kampala highway surrounded Robert Kyagulanyi, demanding him to address the rally. However, UPDF and Police Forces and the Youth Aguu goons started to beat them up, and teargas was short at them.
“From nowhere, I saw many people who were holding sticks running both sides of the road, and later I saw Robert Kyagulanyi convoys coming, sooner we were teargas.” And eyewitnesses recounted.
According to Rev. Father Uma, the paddi Parish of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Gulu Catholic Arch Diocese condemned Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the MP for Bardege-Layibi. On Sunday, December 7, 2025. While preaching at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, he allegedly told the congregation that Hon. Ojara was behind NUP violence.
“I want to tell Hon. Ojara Mapenduzi, the MP for Gulu City West. Layibi-Bardege Davion, that he is the one who organized 500 youths known as Aguu and gave them Yellow Element and provided with UGX 30,000 to go and disrupt NUP rally at Awere ground. Hon. Ojara Mapenduzi instructed the Aguu to beat whoever they got in their way.
He furthermore added. I want to inform Gulu Regional Northern Police Commander, all the District Police Commander DPCs from Acholi Sub Region, District Internal Intelligence, Regional Internal Intelligence, all the District Residence Districts Commanders. (RDC)s, that they are behind Gulu City violence.
While Robert Kyagulanyi was in Mbarara City, the Banyangkole people welcome NUP party president with Olive branches, made for NUP president Clothes to walk on, But as NUP come in Gulu City, Acholi Sub Region, those Banyangkole Police Commander including Gulu UPDF4Divison Commander orchestrated chaos here. I condemned the act.” you better come and kill me. Father Uma warned.
Our Correspondent asked Omara Christopher, Nwoya Resident District Commissioner (RDC), why he deployed heavily armed UPDF, Uganda Police and Aguu to beat and chant up chaos in Nwoya District too?
Christopher Omara was dumped, his response was that he gave two venues for Robert Kyagulanyi to address the rally, but the goons came from Gulu City.
Nwoya, Resident District Commissioner when it was revealed that he was part of the teams of RDC from Northern Uganda who had planned chaos, he could neither be denied nor confirmed.
In Nwoya district, hired goons from Gulu City took over planned Kyagulanyi at Bomah ground.

The Commission condemns the violent scenes surrounding candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s campaigns rally while in Gulu on 6th December 2025
As we await investigations into the incident to establish the root causes, the Commission wishes to state that this was unfortunate and uncalled for, especially coming just days after the meeting of all agents of Presidential candidates and Uganda Police Force, to iron out any issues, with all those in attendance committing to peaceful conduct in accordance with the law.
Violence is inconsistent with the Commission’s enduring calls on all stakeholders to act peacefully and in accordance with electoral laws to enable Ugandans to have free, fair and credible elections.
A duly nominated Presidential candidate is free to traverse any part of Uganda to campaign, provided he or she is acting in line with the law and guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
If there is any disagreement on any matter on the campaign trail, the Commission appeals for dialogue, not violence and confrontation.
The Commission calls on Uganda Police Force to investigate the circumstances that led to Saturday’s confrontation and ensure that those responsible are subjected to the full force of the law.
The Commission further calls on law enforcement agencies to exercise restraint and use proportionate, lawful and humane means while enforcing compliance with electoral laws and guidelines.
